DP World has chosen my typeface Makdessi as their corporate typeface in Arabic, and I collaborated with Design Studio in London on the Arabic adaptation of the logo.
The logo’s letterforms were drawn custom to match the Latin (note the similarity of Waw and latin R and D). The design aimed to match the width of the Latin and to approach the block appearance of the uppercase.
As for the branding typeface, Makdessi’s strength lies in being able to project a professional look while still being approachable and friendly. In this case, its wide proportions helped it to sit well with the Latin companion, and to speak the brand’s voice across a variety of touch points.
